John Tory Will Ban Trick-Or-Treating Next Month If He Has To

You may have to rethink any trick or treating plans. 🎃

John Tory is reconsidering Toronto's Halloween celebrations this year.

In an interview with CP24 this morning, the mayor stated that, while he doesn't have the power to just cancel Halloween, he "wouldn't hesitate" to order parents not to take their kids trick-or-treating if that's what the city's Chief Medical Officer of Health recommended.

I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to do that.

Tory did admit that he has only had minimal discussions with Dr. Eileen de Villa surrounding the subject and will be acting on her advice.

The threat to cancel the festivities comes after an increase in cases in Ontario and Toronto. Over the Labour Day weekend, Ontario saw nearly 400 new cases.

A number of those cases came from a single wedding with celebrations spanning Toronto, Markham and Whitchurch-Stouffville between August 28 and 29.
