Toronto commuters beware. TTC closures will be shutting down a section of Line 1 this month, and normal operations won't resume for 10 days.

On Monday, the transit agency announced that it would be suspending service between Finch and Sheppard-Yonge between December 4 and December 11, 2020.

The move will reportedly help crews improve tunnels and accelerate the installation of the ATC signal system.

I know these closures are frustrating, but the TTC is doing this work now during the pandemic, while subway ridership is dramatically reduced, to save years in the long run. Mayor John Tory

As if that wasn't bad enough, the closure will also extend from Finch Station to St Clair Station on the December 12 weekend.

The TTC stated in their release that they are "capitalizing" on the subway's reduced ridership.

“While subway ridership is low, we are proactively accelerating capital work on Line 1 to reduce our state-of-good-repair backlog and improve service for TTC passengers," said Jaye Robinson, TTC Chair

Regular service will resume by 6:00 a.m. on December 14, 2020.

Shuttle buses will be running during this time so commuters can still get around during the closure.
