Outbreak Sweeps Through Ontario University Dorm After Illegal Halloween Bash

A university has declared an outbreak in Windsor-Essex after an unauthorized dorm party on Halloween.

The University of Windsor has reported five confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to 680News

The outlet reports that an additional 18 students are in self-isolation.

“This is a strong reminder to our student community that we cannot become complacent with our protocols and guidelines during this pandemic," said University of Windsor President Rob Gordon of the outbreak.

Windsor-Essex County Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed said, "There is no ongoing risk to the students at this time.” 

This is not the first time an Ontario university has had to deal with unauthorized gatherings.

Police in London broke up an illegal party on Halloween, close to Western University.

According to CTV, the London party host was fined $10,000 after three attendees tested positive for COVID-19.
