The speed cameras in Vancouver are part of the Intersection Safety Camera Program, which focuses on reducing speeding and increasing road safety. These cameras are positioned at some of the busiest intersections and aim to catch drivers who are going over the speed limit. So, whether you’re a Vancouver local or just passing through, it’s always good to know where they are.
The province started using safety cameras in 2019, and they're now at 140 intersections in the province, running all day every day. While 105 of those are for red light violations, 35 are also used for speed violations.
According to the ICBC website, a ticket for excessive speeding could be up to $483 (and points). How much a ticket will cost depends on the location and speed. The website also notes that "for some offences or convictions such as excessive speeding and distracted driving, a Driver Risk Premium may apply in addition to fines and points."
