RCMP Say They're Aware Of 'Offensive' Social Media Trend About April 24 & Sexual Assault

"All forms of sexual assault are criminal," they say.

Contributor

RCMP have responded to a trend online where some have reportedly claimed April 24 as "National Rape Day," calling it offensive and a hoax.

The Canadian police force said the "RCMP is aware of an offensive social media trend highlighting April 24 as a day to harm women. This is a hoax. All forms of sexual assault are criminal. If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1."

According to Know Your Meme, the trend relates back to a since-deleted Urban Dictionary post that claimed April 24 as a day where it is legal to rape people.

That definition was reportedly shared on sites like Reddit and 9GAG before ending up on TikTok, but Know Your Meme says there is no evidence of these videos on the platform.

Throughout April, many videos and posts have emerged warning people about the day and some social media users say that even though it's likely a joke, they want people to be safe.
