April's full moon will light up the sky across Canada this week, and it's known as the pink moon.

It's also a "micromoon," so here's what you need to know if you want to see it.

This is the first full moon of spring, and the name is like the colour of blossoms during the season.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, each month's full moon name is from various sources like Indigenous, colonial American, and European traditions.

The full moon in April is called the pink moon because of the early spring bloom of a wildflower in eastern North America: Phlox subulata.

It's more commonly known as creeping phlox or moss phlox.

This flower is often called "moss pink," and it has traditionally been in full bloom around the time of the full moon in April.

Also, this year, April's full moon is known as the Paschal moon, and it's used to determine the date of Easter.

You can see the full moon rise on the night of Saturday, April 12, 2025. The full pink moon will occur at 8:22 p.m. ET that night.

It will be the farthest, smallest, and dimmest full moon of 2025, according to The Weather Network.

That's because it's a "micromoon," which means it's near the point in its orbit that's the furthest away from Earth.

At the moment of the full moon this month, it'll be about 406,007 kilometers away from our planet.

You might not be able to notice a difference between this micromoon and a regular full moon. It actually can look bigger if you look at the full moon near the horizon because of an optical illusion, according to Time and Date.

There is only one more full micromoon this year. You can see it on Monday, May 12, 2025.
