When it comes to one-of-a-kind adventures, the south might just take the cake. Living in Georgia, you have so many places you can travel to for a quick day trip and some might say that's living in luxury. You can hop on over to this gem mine in South Carolina that's less than three hours away from Atlanta to really get an experience like you never have before.

Diamond Hill Mine in Abbeville, South Carolina is only about two and a half hours away from Atlanta. It makes for the perfect day trip to escape the city for a few hours.

According to their website, this spot was exposed due to erosion of the southern Appalachian Mountains over hundreds of years and that's how visitors can now come mine and dig for treasure on the 3-acre plot.

Many "mining" spots throughout the south might not actually actually allow you to get down in the rocks and chip away until you find something. But Diamond Hill Mine lets you bring your own tools and dig until you find some goodies.

You'll be able to find a variety of some of the best amethyst, angle plated, aura, smoky, skeletal, and iron & manganese oxide coated gems and crystals here.

Since you'll need to bring your own digging supplies, Diamond Hill's website has a list of a few things you should bring, including gloves, a long screwdriver, shovel, rake, rock hammer, sledgehammer and/or pick, as well as a box to carry your finds and a newspaper to stuff the box and protect your gems.

Don't forget to pack the snacks, drinks, and sunscreen as well. After all, it's hard work digging away under the sun while looking for these glittering treasures.

The mine opens at 9 a.m. and you can get after it until sundown. They usually have free camping for visitors, but they've put a pause on that for now.

Though you can keep up with their Facebook page to be one of the first people to know when it's back up and running.

It's only $20 to mine and you get to take home everything you find. Can you say the perfect unique day date?
