Births in the U.S. have been in decline since 2004 (except for 2014) and COVID-19 didn't help. In December 2020, officials started noting the effects of the March 2020 national emergency on fertility.
"Even accounting for seasonality and the usual decline in annual births, the number of births in December 2020 and January 2021 was unusually low and that is very likely the result of the COVID-19 pandemic," stated the United States Census Bureau.

Many couples were already expecting when the health crisis arose and gave birth during the worst possible time.

To learn about the impact of sanitation concerns for newborns in the Lone Star State, Stacker compiled a list of the most popular baby names for girls in Texas using data from the Social Security Administration.

Names are ranked by the number of babies in 2020 with ties broken by the highest ranking since 2000.

The meanings of the names show the surprisingly positive mindset of pandemic parents.
