It looks like Canada is home to some seriously smart cookies. The top seven intelligent communities of 2021 have been revealed and three Canadian cities made the cut.

On June 30, a virtual conference of the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) concluded and the world's most intelligent communities were revealed. The list is based on a community's aspirations and its leadership in economic, social, and cultural development.

The top seven list goes as follows:

  • Binh Duong Smart City, Vietnam
  • Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil
  • Langley Township, British Columbia, Canada
  • Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
  • Moscow, Russia
  • Townsville, Queensland, Australia
  • Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Why They Made The Cut

Of the Canadian contenders, Langley Township and Mississauga are new additions to the list, and Winnipeg previously earned a spot in both 2016 and 2018.

The Township of Langley is being recognized for things like its commitment to truth and reconciliation and its career training. Mississauga was noticed for its business and technology, among other things. Meanwhile, Winnipeg got a shout-out for its rising technology sector and the high potential future of its residents.

One of the top seven communities will be named the 2021 Intelligent Community of the Year in October.
