You can get movie tickets for just $3.99 at Cineplex theatres in May.

If you want to take advantage of this deal, you have to buy tickets a certain way or you'll end up paying more.

Cineplex Canada is offering discounted prices with the Family Favourites program this month.

Theatres show movies on Saturdays that the entire family can enjoy, and tickets are only $3.99 plus any applicable taxes.

But that cheap price is for tickets purchased in the theatre.

If you buy tickets online, it will be more expensive.

Family Favourites cost $4.99 for Scene+ members ($3.99 plus a $1 online booking fee) and $5.49 for all other online purchases ($3.99 plus a $1.50 online booking fee).

CineClub members can get the discounted $3.99 price online because the booking fee is waived, but it costs $9.99 a month for that membership.

Cineplex said that the online booking fee allows you to select your seats in advance and get shareable digital tickets.

The fee only applies to the first four tickets purchased in a single transaction.

These are the movies you can watch for just $3.99 this month:

  • Minions: The Rise of Gru — May 3
  • Puss in Boots: The Last Wish — May 10
  • Shrek — May 17
  • Trolls Band Together — May 31

Cineplex's Family Favourites program is only available at participating locations in Canada.

So, be sure to check if your local Cineplex theatre is offering this $3.99 movie ticket deal before heading out with the family on Saturdays.
