All passengers over the age of 2 must now properly wear a face mask throughout the entire security screening process, but passengers will be asked to lower their masks by the Travel Document Checker so they can verify identification.
Those who refuse to wear a mask will be denied entry into the airport, and, in some circumstances, could be subject to a civil penalty for attempting to find a way around screening requirements, interfering with screening personnel, or a combination of those offenses.
The requirement will be in place until May 11, 2021.
The TSA's new order comes after President Joe Biden previously implemented an executive order requiring face masks in airports and bus and rail stations, as well as on passenger aircraft, public transportation, passenger railroads, and over-the-road buses operating on scheduled fixed-routes.
