Police have undertaken a four-month investigation which has resulted in a significant Edmonton puppy rescue. Law enforcement had been looking to bust a "puppy selling operation" and have now found their guy.

According to a police release, they had become involved in the animal welfare case "after being contacted by peace officers with the City of Edmonton's Animal Care and Control unit."

A man had been advertising puppies for sale online and several prospective buyers had lodged formal complaints after going to view them.

10 Puppies were rescued

"On Oct. 25, 2020, EPS members and Animal Control peace officers executed a search warrant at the suspect residence near 83 Street and 138 Avenue in northeast Edmonton," outlines the release.

They found five dogs living in distress in the unheated garage. They were covered in urine spots and looked dehydrated with no water nearby.

They found another five pups inside the home.

The dogs included "four Border Collie puppies and one Blue Heeler inside the garage and two Yorkshire Terriers, two Shih Tzus and one Chihuahua inside the residence." They were transported to the Animal Care and Control Centre to be taken care of.

According to police, the man responsible is facing several charges of animal cruelty.

They think this may stretch beyond what they've seen and are asking anyone with more information to come forward.
