People Lined Up For Hours This Morning To Shop At Vaughan Mills On Black Friday (PHOTOS)
Some people have been waiting since 5:30 a.m. to shop.
Shoppers lined up before sunrise atshopping centre in York Region to score some Black Friday deals.
Some had been lined up outside of the mall's Nike store, which opened for business at 8:00 a.m., since 5:30 this morning.
At some stores, shoppers were briefed by employees on health and safety protocols before they were allowed inside.
Security staff also patrolled the lines and stood at the entrances.
Despite the long lineups at certain stores, the mall was pretty quiet when it opened; shoppers waited while stores prepared to open.
Malls in York Region, which is currently in the red control zone, are permitted to remain open for in-person shopping.
However, only 10 people may be seated at a mall's food court, fitting rooms cannot be adjacent to one another, patrons must be screened before entry, and a safety plan must be in place.
In Toronto, Mayor John Tory has asked retailers not to hold in-person Black Friday sales.
Despite being in the grey zone, or lockdown, many big-box retailers have been deemed essential and are therefore open for Black Friday.
Stores selling non-essential items can only offer curbside pickup and online shopping in the lockdown zones.
