With the York Region lockdown happening after this weekend, people are flocking to malls there. One shopping centre even extended its hours to accommodate the influx.

After the announcement on December 11 about stronger restrictions coming into effect soon, Vaughan Mills saw lines both outside and inside the mall.

December 14

when York Region goes into lockdown

One person tweeted a photo of a long line up for the Nike store inside the mall on December 12.

Others shared photos and videos of lineups outside the mall and crowded parking lots.

Even Ontario Minister of Education Stephen Lecce was at Vaughan Mills on Friday.

Upper Canada Mall, which is also in York Region, extended its hours on Saturday and Sunday to manage the increase in shoppers while still keeping up with capacity limits.

Someone also shared a photo of a line up outside of a Costco in the region that actually went past the huge building.

Recently, a Costco in Winnipeg was slapped with a $5,000 fine for not following COVID-19 rules.

York Region will go into lockdown at 12:01 a.m. on December 14.
