So much history! Over the past few years, the Canadian rapper has done a pretty good job of keeping his personal life out of the spotlight. One thing his fans remain curious about is Drake and Sophie Brussaux's relationship.
The first time Drizzy and Brussaux were spotted together was in January of 2017, TMZ reports. The pair were seen having dinner at a Japanese restaurant with a group of friends while in Amsterdam.
In May of the same year, Brussaux went public with claims that she was carrying the rapper's child. According to TMZ, the French artist said she had texts proving that Drake asked her to terminate the pregnancy. When TMZ reached out to Drizzy's team, they seemingly denied that the Canadian star was the father.
"This woman has a very questionable background. She has admitted to having multiple relationships...She's one of many women claiming he got them pregnant. If it is in fact Drake's child, which he does not believe, he would do the right thing by the child."
Drake's rep then went on to explain that he couldn't verify whether the text message exchange was valid or not, but they did say that another rapper who Brussaux has a history with "all but acknowledged it's his kid."
The Sun reports that in October of 2017, Brussaux gave birth to a baby boy, although it wasn't until almost a year later that the "In My Feelings" singer acknowledged his son publicly.
After rapper Pusha T outed Drake's hidden child in late May of 2018 with the release of "The Story of Adidon," Drizzy himself wrote some bars about the situation, which fans heard on his album Scorpion.
"I wasn't hiding my kid from the world/I was hiding the world from my kid," the 33-year-old wrote on "Emotionless," finally admitting to fans that Brussaux's child is, in fact, his.
In a 2019 interview with Rap Radar, Drake explained that he kept quiet about the situation for so long because he wasn't sure whether Adonis was actually his child or not — he wanted to wait for the results of a paternity test before going public with the news.
"To be honest with you, I did a DNA test for my son and it came back to us and it said the DNA test got ruined in transit and they couldn’t be 100 percent sure that that was my son or not."
In October of 2018, Drizzy opened up about his relationship with Brussaux on LeBron James' HBO series The Shop. "I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who, we’ve had our moments," the rapper explained.
"I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible...No matter what happens, I have unconditional love for the mother of my child because I want him to love his mother and I have to project that energy."
In March of 2019, PEOPLE reported that Drake was making good on his promise to build a better relationship with Brussaux. The French artist shared photos from the VIP area at one of the "Money in the Grave" singer's Paris shows.
Just a few months later, in May of the same year, Adonis' mother revealed on Instagram that she landed a job as the Artistic Director at Toronto's Arts Help. It's unclear whether Drizzy had anything to do with this, but the move allowed him to be closer in proximity to his young son.
In October of 2019, a post on the "God's Plan" singer's Instagram revealed that he celebrated Adonis' second birthday at his Bridle Path mansion in the 6ix, complete with gold decorative balloons.
Brussaux also snapped a photo at the event, sans Adonis or his father. She captioned the post, "A proud, PROUD, birthday mom 🥳."
For most of 2020, Drake managed to keep his family out of the spotlight, until earlier this month, that is. On his new single "When To Say When," the rapper brought up his relationship with Brussaux singing "Baby mama fluke, but I love her for who she is."
According to the Daily Mail, the Canadian star faced plenty of scrutiny for his lyrics that seemingly threw shade at the mother of his child.
Fast forward to now and it appears that things seem to be going well between the co-parents. The former Degrassi star took to Instagram early this morning to share the first photos of his 2-year-old son with the world, and some of them even included Brussaux.
In the caption of the photoset, Drizzy appeared to be in his feelings while sharing a powerful message about "connecting to your inner light." The 33-year-old also revealed that he can't wait to be reunited with his "beautiful family and friends."
It's been some time since Drake released a new album, but he revealed a few months back that he has a project on the way. It'll be interesting to see if his new lyrics shed more light on his relationship with Brussaux, or his life as a father to Adonis.
