Just weeks later, a 42-year-old police officer, reportedly a friend of the accused, was found dead in the water off San Pedro.

The events leading up to the discovery are unclear, though the Independent claims that the Canadian socialite had invited the police officer over to have a conversation about her personal security.

According to CNN, the Belize Police Department issued a statement that said a woman had been seen on the pier where the police officer was found with "what appeared to be blood on her arms and clothing."

Belize Police said that Jasmine Hartin had been arrested and charged.
