Michigan Governor Made January 20 'What's Going On' Day and It's So On Point
January 20, 2021, is set to be a historic day as Joe Biden will begin his term as president, but it will now be remembered for more than just that.
One of the world's most famous protest songs, "What's Going On," which was released by singer-songwriter Marvin Gaye in 1971, is now getting its very own day of recognition.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer told The Rolling Stone
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer officially proclaimed January 20 as "What's Going On Day" in her state, which is the same day the single was released 50 years ago.
“Having this tribute on the calendar provides us with an important moment — one where we can come together as a unified state to pause, reflect, and appreciate the need for ideas, perspective, love, and understanding. These are values that mean more today than ever before,” Whitmer told the Rolling Stone.
The song tackled many issues the world was facing in the early 1970s, including war, drug abuse, and police brutality.
It even became the title track of his critically acclaimed album "What's Going On," which was released later in 1971, and now sits atop Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list.
To celebrate the special occasion, the Motown Museum, located in Detroit, will be holding multiple virtual celebrations in honor of Marvin Gaye, as the museum remains closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
