A popular Orlando hotel chain announced a "substantial" amount of layoffs to its workforce.

Harris Rosen, the president and COO of Rosen Hotels, had to make the "drastic decision" after the COVID-19 pandemic dried up the tourism market in the region.

Never in the 46-year history of my company would I have envisioned such a drastic decision.

Rosen went on to add that the once robust tourism economy in Orlando is struggling amid the pandemic.

Dr. Abraham Pizam, with the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at UCF, predicted that more of the region's hotels would follow Rosen's lead and start their own round of furloughs.

Rosen Hotels has eight properties in the Orlando region.
