Northern lights in Canada.

Senior Writer

The northern lights are expected to plunge south and be visible all over Canada tonight.

So, you could see the aurora in places like Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.

The NOAA northern lights forecast for Wednesday, March 26, is predicting a vibrant aurora across most of Canada.

There is also a view line forecast that shows how far south the aurora might be seen along the northern horizon.

A "more intense" aurora is expected in Prince George, Whitehorse, Calgary, Edmonton, Banff, Jasper, Yellowknife, Saskatoon, Regina, Churchill, Moosonee, and more places.

The northern lights will be less intense but still visible in Vancouver, Kelowna, Lethbridge, Regina, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, and other nearby areas.

Places where you could see the northern lights along the northern horizon are Victoria, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Moncton and Fredericton.

Are you wondering about the northern lights in Ontario? Most of southern Ontario is within the view line, which extends from the southern tip of Lake Huron along the western and northern shores of Lake Ontario.

If you're going to try and see the aurora tonight, the Canadian Space Agency has northern lights viewing tips.

Typically, the northern lights appear a few hours after sunset and become more intense around midnight.

You should find a spot with little or no light pollution. If you're somewhere a less intense aurora is forecast, city lights will probably block your view.

Also, check the local weather forecast because clouds can make it difficult to see the northern lights.

Then, you should look all around you because auroras can appear anywhere in the sky.

If you're somewhere along the NOAA view line, the northern lights will only be visible toward the northern horizon.
