No university degree or college diploma is required for these positions.
Canada's national statistical agency recently put out job postings for Pay Clerks in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec.
Statistics Canada is looking to staff these full-time census positions in the western, central and eastern regions.
If you apply to this job posting but don't get hired, you could be considered for similar positions for the federal census next year.
That could include various administrative positions with similar education and experience requirements.
As a Pay Clerk during the 2026 census, you will:
- compile, maintain and update records of pay activities in the pay system and generate pay reports
- review, verify and input employee pay claims in the pay system
- respond to written and telephone inquiries from employees in consultation with supervisors
- issue Records of Employment

Pay Clerk — western region
Salary: $57,217 to $61,761

Location: Edmonton, AB
Who Should Apply: Canadian citizens and permanent residents residing within a 125-kilometre radius of Edmonton can apply for this job.
You must have successfully completed two years of high school or have an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
It's required that you have experience in:
- providing general administrative support services in a physical or virtual office environment
- performing computer functions (including sending and receiving emails, using word processing and spreadsheet applications, using slide show presentation programs, creating virtual meeting invites, etc.)
You need to have effective oral and written communication skills in English.
Also, you must be able and willing to travel occasionally and work overtime according to operational needs.
You need to have reliable internet access and a private, secure space at your place of residence to make confidential phone calls.
While this job allows you to work from home, you must also be able to work on-site on a rotational basis at the closest census administrative hub to your residence, based on operational requirements.

It's required that you have experience in:

- performing computer functions (including sending and receiving emails, using word processing and spreadsheet applications, using slide show presentation programs, creating virtual meeting invites, etc.)
You need to be able to communicate in English or be bilingual in English and French.

You must be able to communicate in French or be bilingual in English and French.
