The Newfoundland COVID-19 case count has gone up with the first positive one in almost two months. This one is related to travel.

The resident of Newfoundland, a man between 50 and 59 years old, recently returned to the province from the U.S.

While on route to Newfoundland and Labrador, the individual was not symptomatic nor considered infectious.

The person didn't start experiencing symptoms during his travel but still self-isolated when he came back to Newfoundland.

That's what's currently required by the province's public health guidelines.

He also didn't go through any of the other provinces in Atlantic Canada to get back home.

Since the person wasn't showing symptoms while he was travelling back to the province and self-isolated after his return, public health officials said there's only a low risk to the public.

This is the first positive case of the virus since May 28, ending a 42-day streak without any new ones.
