Toronto Is One Of The Best Spots In The World To See 2021's Summer Solar Eclipse

Set your alarms for an early morning!
Staff Writer

Grab your sunglasses, Ontarians, because you have one of the world's best views for a 2021 solar eclipse.

According to the 2021 Canadian Farmer's Almanac, Toronto will see almost the entire diameter of the Sun obscured by the Moon on the morning of June 10, 2021.

June 10, 2021 Annular eclipse of the sun

The 2021 summer eclipse is an "annular" eclipse, meaning the moon will not completely cover the Sun when it passes in front of it — instead, it'll make the Sun look like a ring of light.

The eclipse will be most visible in parts of Nunavut, but parts of Southern Ontario will have a great angle as well — we're expected to see the Moon cover 86% of the Sun.

Parts of Europe are expected to see the eclipse, according to Forbes, but London and Moscow will only see 20% and 15% partial eclipses, for example.

The eclipse is expected to take place very early in the morning, around 6 a.m. EDT.

"[It will be] a most unusual sunrise this morning as the Sun will rise looking like a crescent with cusps pointed upwards," the Farmer's Almanac says.

Toronto's sunrise on June 10, 2021, is at approximately 5:35 a.m. that day, according to timeanddate.com, and that website also reports that Toronto's maximum eclipse is supposed to take place at approximately 6:45 a.m.

So set your alarms early on June 10, but be wary — always use proper eye protection when snagging a glimpse!
