As the province struggles to keep case numbers down, new Ontario COVID-19 restrictions could be on the way.

Premier Doug Ford reportedly met with his team on Thursday night to discuss the possibility of closing down more venues.

According to the Toronto Star, gyms, hair salons, and personal care services could be forced to shut their doors next week.

We have some difficult but necessary decisions to make. I’m asking the people of Ontario to listen, especially with the holidays quickly approaching. Doug Ford

However, these shutdowns would only reportedly affect Ontario hot spots like Toronto and the Peel Region.

Ford's government could also begin enforcing stricter occupancy rules in the region's shopping malls ahead of the holidays.

The guideline would limit the number of shoppers allowed inside malls and stores.

The temporary restrictions, which would be installed for 28 days, come in an attempt to contain the community spread of the disease.

New fines will likely be installed alongside the bylaws to help dissuade people from breaking them.

According to the Toronto Star, the new restrictions could come into effect as early as Monday.
