VanVleet Gets Emotional About Jacob Blake & Reportedly Considers Boycotting Games

It has been an emotional day for Raptors' Fred VanVleet. The point guard appeared on the verge of tears during a press conference on Tuesday as he discussed the police shooting of Jacob Blake. The 26-year-old reportedly stated that the team is considering boycotting some games over the incident. 

It was clear right from the start of the press conference that VanVleet wasn't going to mask his emotions.

Instead, the NBA star dove right into the issue, telling reporters his thoughts and feelings about Blake's shooting.

"I was pretty excited, and then we all had to watch Jacob Blake get shot yesterday," VanVleet said according to The Athletic.

"That changes the tone of things. It's just starting to feel like everything we're doing is just going through the motions, nothing's changing."

"What are we willing to give up? Do we actually give a f**k about what's going on, or is it just cool to have Black Lives Matter on the backdrop or wearing a T-shirt? I'm in a different place today, emotionally speaking," he added.

Jacob Blake, a father of 3, was reportedly shot eight times in the back by Kenosha police after walking away from officers after opening the door to his grey SUV.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Blake families alleges he was checking on his kids when he was gunned down.

Blake's father revealed on Tuesday that his son had been paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the altercation.

TSN has reported that the Raptors are now considering boycotting games in response to Blake's shooting and other acts of police brutality against Black people. 

Both VanVleet and Powell mentioned this move during press conferences throughout the day.  

"I'm pretty sick to my stomach to have to sit up here and talk about this again," Powell told reporters. 

Raptors Kyle Lowry had issued similarly emotional remarks last week over a controversial incident involving the team's president Masai Ujiri.
