The City of Toronto Will Help You Pay Your Rent If You're In A Pinch

They're giving out interest-free loans to those who are behind on their rent.

This year has been financially challenging for so many. If you're behind on your rent payments, the Toronto rent bank could offer you the assistance you need to get back on your feet.

The program gives out interest-free loans to those who are in need of some quick cash to pay their rent.

There are a few requirements, however.

The Toronto Rent Bank provides interest-free loans to Toronto residents who are behind in their rent or need to move to more suitable housing. The City of Toronto

In order to be eligible, you need to be renting a residence at market value, making under $38,000 a year, and not currently receiving Ontario Works support. The full requirements can be found on the City of Toronto website.

You also have to live in Toronto, obviously.

If you fall under all of those categories, you could be eligible for the program.

Toronto tenants and activists alike have been busy fighting to end COVID-19 evictions across the city this year, with demonstrations and protests happening regularly.

There isn't an online portal for Rent Bank applications yet, but if you're looking to apply, you can call 416-397-RENT (7368) for more information.
