Multiple Toronto GoodLife Gyms Have Reported COVID-19 Cases Over The Past Weeks

Many have shut down for cleaning.

Multiple gyms have shut their doors for cleaning. Five Toronto GoodLife Fitness locations have been dealing with COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks. New cases were reported this week at two separate locations.

According to 680 News, the most recent cases occurred at two separate clubs in North York.

The new reports marked the latest in a series of cases at gyms across the GTA.

Goodlife Fitness confirmed on Wednesday that a worker at its Yonge and Finch location tested positive for the disease.

The employee's last shift was on August 28.

"The affected individual has not been back in the Club since Friday and has not been in any other GoodLife club," Tracy Matthews, vice president of operations at GoodLife Fitness, told Global News on September 3.

"The associate informed GoodLife shortly after receiving the positive test and, out of an abundance of caution, we informed members who were also in the club at this time," she added.

Meanwhile, the health club also confirmed that a member of its Dufferin and Finch located had tested positive.

Two members at the Mississauga’s Heartland Town Centre also reported having COVID-19 on both last Friday and Monday.

Other locations have also reported cases, including Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue East, Yonge Street and Highway 407, and Brampton Gateway.

Many of these locations were forced to shut down for cleaning.

"GoodLife has taken tremendous strides to implement measures that meet and exceed guidelines set out by local government and public health authorities and are designed to decrease the risk of transmission in our clubs, even if someone who tests positive has been in our facility," Matthews concluded.

Ontarians flocked to fitness centres back in July after suffering through months of closures.

Gyms were able to be back in business as part of the third stage of the province's reopening plan.

However, strict guidelines were set in place to ensure public safety.
