A social media group that helped provide hundreds of thousands of Canadians with COVID-19 vaccination updates is ending its operation.

Vaccine Hunters Canada was created in March 2020 by Andrew Young and formed huge presences on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok.

Volunteers posted regular daily updates about where Canadians could get vaccinated, details on who was eligible and information about how to book their doses.

After posting the news on their Twitter account, which still has 250,000 followers, there were dozens of heartfelt replies.

One user posted: "Your guidance and perseverance throughout this phase has been commendable and we will be forever thankful to you for your hard work."

Others posted about how the Vaccine Hunters Canada team had served Canada.

One Twitter user posted: "You saved lives and were a huge help when we clearly needed this type of leadership! Thank you to each and every [one] of you for your time and efforts during this pandemic!"

Another replied: "My most heartfelt and sincere gratitude for all the work you have done. So many people would still be struggling were it not for you. You've saved more lives than you can ever know, I think. So you deserve all the accolades and awards. Thank you."
