There's a lot I miss from before the pandemic, and going to theatres to catch a movie is one of them. We won't have to miss out for much longer though, because some B.C. movie theatres are reopening very soon. Starting Friday, June 12, you'll be able to have movie night somewhere that's not your couch.

B.C.'s four family-owned Hollywood 3 Cinemas are reopening and according to their director, Rahim Manji, they're one of the first indoor theatres in Canada to do so.

"We did all of our due diligence," said Manji to Narcity. "We've been working with WorkSafeBC as well as Health Canada for the last few weeks."

Come Friday, June 12, their locations in Surrey, White Rock, and Pitt Meadows will be opening up. A location on Vancouver Island in Duncan will also open the same day.

To keep people safe, only 50 people will be allowed in the building at one time, said Manji, with people spaced out between seats in multiple auditoriums.

Plus, there will be an hour between each showing for staff to completely sanitize the auditoriums, lobby, and washrooms.

For now, they're doing daily showings of Trolls World Tour during the day and E.T. at night for $5 each.

While Manji thinks they're going to have a slow start with customers at first, he hopes more people will come with time and as people start feeling comfortable.

"We're doing everything that we can to show people that we are ready for them, and we have the utmost priority for our guests' safety," he said.

Meanwhile, other theatres in Canada are planning their openings soon. As Alberta starts heading into phase 2 of their reopening on Friday, June 12, they'll be opening up movie theatres and allowing live entertainment.

"I don't think anyone's ready to open yet, just because it's so quick," he said. "So it's very very very few theaters that are going to be open."

As the staff gear up and prepare for guests again, Manji said the mood was "excited." He and his family will be working seven days a week to make it possible, so you can head out for a movie again.
