Fitness World Gyms Reopen Next Month In BC Without 'Steve Nash'

New name, same gym.

One beloved B.C. gym is making a comeback, and we can finally return to pumping iron. Fitness World is reopening next month after a long wait. They're dropping "Steve Nash" from their name though and it's the end of an era.

In a press release from Friday, June 19 shared with Narcity, the brand-formerly-known-as-Steve Nash Fitness World officially announced they'll be reopening their doors in certain locations starting the first week of July "with full access to the workout floors, group fitness, and small group training sessions."

Don't worry, because all your old memberships are still good for when they reopen, "including pre-paid memberships and personal training services."

If your membership was frozen due to COVID-19 then you could also keep the freeze going during July if you want.

The biggest difference between the old gym and the new gym is the name. After being bought by new investors, they're going through a rebrand and dropping NBA player Steve Nash from the title. Now they simply go by "Fitness World."

The chain originally closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic back on Tuesday, March 24, shuttering 24 locations and letting go of all their staff. But like a phoenix, they are rising from the ashes to give everyone mad gains once more.

Following guidelines from B.C.'s reopening strategy, they wrote that "each location will enforce stringent health and safety measures as outlined by B.C.'s Restart Plan." They didn't go into what exactly this might look like.

Other gyms have already reopened in the province as early as Tuesday, May 19, after the province entered its Phase One.

There are a ton of new guidelines and rules that many of these gyms are following. For example, some gyms installed an appointment system for gymgoers to schedule workout sessions.

That way, staff could better scrub down equipment between appointments.

So get out your fluorescent biker shorts, your creatine powder, and your weight lifting gloves, because we'll soon be on a one-way trip to swole-halla.
