The Vancouver Aquarium Is Oh-Fish-Ally Reopening This Week
After a long break over the pandemic, the beloved Vancouver Aquarium is reopening. All their wild and adorable animals have been patiently waiting for you, from fluffy otters to curious seals. Even though it might look a bit different with new COVID-19 guidelines, the spirit is still the same and it promises to be as fun as ever.
In a release, Vancouver Aquarium announced they'll be back open to the public starting Friday, June 26. And, much like other attractions, they'll be operating under a new, time-ticketed, one-way "flow experience" that gets rid of the crowds and keeps you safe.
That means all visitors must reserve their tickets online in advance. Each ticket is like booking an appointment for a specific date and time for you to enter and explore.
Members get to book tickets for free, as well as enter the aquarium earlier in the morning than others.
You'll be given roughly 90 minutes to take a one-way tour through six different "zones" and "more than 85 indoor and outdoor exhibits on the Vancouver Aquarium’s main level," the release reads.
They also write that you'll need to wear a mask in order to visit — they have masks available in the gift store if you don't have any.
Following B.C.'s guidelines for reopening, the aquarium will also be running at just 20% to 30% of its max capacity for this time of year.
And just because they're finally open to the public again doesn't mean they're safe from closing. They're still strapped for cash to operate and take care of animals.
Their release says that they're still facing bankruptcy after shutting their doors for so long, but that your tickets could help them to stay open.
The aquarium, which is a not-for-profit, is home to over 70,000 creatures from jellyfish to snakes. They've even got a new exhibit for their reopening that focuses on how marine animals raise their kids.
