I am recommending to continue with the online learning at least until the end of the lockdown.   Dr. Wajid Ahmed

Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Windsor-Essex County Health Unit's medical officer of health, announced during a public health update that schools will remain closed until at least January 23, the current end of Ontario's lockdown.

Ahmed was also clear that his decision would not be affected by any future announcements on the issue by the Ontario government.

"Bottom line is, from Monday, whether the province does it or I do, it will be an online learning model for our community," he added.

On Thursday, Premier Doug Ford did state that an announcement of the fate of schools would be revealed later today.

He also stated that currently, one in every five children under the age of 13 is testing positive for COVID-19.

"I will never, ever put our kids in jeopardy. No matter what decision is made, I will protect our kids at all cost," Ford stated.
