New data from the Canada Border Services Agency has found that the latest restrictions in Canada have been successful in curbing air travel.

Almost a month after Canada’s travel rules had a major update, Global News shared an analysis of data that found the number of passengers entering Canada via air had dropped by almost 55%.

Between February 1 and February 21 — before the travel rules were ramped-up to include additional COVID-19 tests and quarantine hotels — 114,139 travellers entered Canada by air.

However, since the additional measures were implemented, the amount of air passengers has dropped by 54.7% to a total of 65,253 between February 22 and March 14.

While the restrictions appear to be curbing air travel into Canada, land travel across the Canada-U.S. border jumped by 8.9% during the same period, despite new measures there, too.
