The earliest will be here next month!

Jason Kenney addressed Albertans about the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines during a press conference on Wednesday, December 2.

He said the province plans to roll them out as quickly as possible and explained that there are already dozens of vaccine depots set up around the province.

Kenney said that the province anticipates that they will be able to administer vaccines to over 10% of the population in the first phase of the rollout from January to March 2021.

435,000 Vaccines to be administered in phase 1

"Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines require two doses to be fully effective," he said. The doses need to be separated by three to six weeks.

Therefore, vaccinating that many Albertans means administering about 870,000 doses.

The premier said this initial phase of vaccinations will focus almost entirely on "Alberta's most at-risk populations."

This includes residents of long-term care homes and staff of these facilities, on-reserve First Nations individuals age 65 and up, seniors aged 75 and up, and health care workers who work with those at-risk populations or are most needed to ensure workforce capacity.

Phase 2 will follow from April to September and will include a second priority group that will be decided upon by the new task force.

Finally, Phase 3 will kick off in the fall of 2021, when most Albertans will be able to get vaccines.
