New Ranking Of The World's Most Beautiful Road Trips Includes 2 Canadian Routes

So close, so beautiful! 🤩🇨🇦
Managing Editor, Canada

Stop what you’re doing and grab your bucket list! A new ranking of the best road trips in the world includes two Canadian routes and they’re seriously beautiful.

On Thursday, Pentagon Motor Group released a list of “The World's Most Beautiful Road Trip Routes,” based on an analysis of over 7 million Instagram hashtags associated with the world's most popular road trip destinations.

The top spots were chosen by calculating how many Instagram photos have been shared per mile of the route’s journey. The trip with the most posts per mile was crowned the most picturesque in the world.

It was Australia’s Great Ocean Road that took the top spot, boasting 157 miles of road along the south-eastern coast.

Big Sur in the U.S. followed in second place, with Jebel Hafeet in the United Arab Emirates, Hai Van Pass in Vietnam and Chapman’s Peak Drive in South Africa rounding off the top five.

Canada's best road trips

Not one, but two iconic Canadian routes made the global top-20 road trip ranking, with Alberta’s Icefields Parkway taking the 10th spot.

The analysis explains that the stretch of road connects two of Canada’s most stunning locations, Lake Louise and Jasper, while delivering scenes of ancient glaciers, cascading waterfalls and thick pine forests on the way.

Nova Scotia’s Cabot Trail also ranked high, taking 16th place on the worldwide list.

The route's foodie hot spots were praised in particular, with Pentagon's analysis showing that the trail is particularly renowned for its fresh local seafood that road-trippers can enjoy en route.
