People have revealed what they think Canada's best universities are.

It turns out that the University of Toronto wasn't named the number one post-secondary school in the country.

Narcity posted on Facebook recently and asked people to share the best universities in Canada.

With more than 200 comments on the post, there were a lot of opinions.

According to Canadians, these are the top universities in the country:

  1. McGill
  2. University of British Columbia
  3. University of Toronto

After those post-secondary schools, people said the best universities are McMaster University, Queen's University and Western University.

Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Alberta, York University, and the University of Waterloo are tied as the next top post-secondary schools.

Only three of the top 10 universities aren't in Ontario!

These post-secondary schools weren't mentioned as much as the others, but a few people said they're the best universities in Canada:

  • Dalhousie University
  • University of Guelph
  • Memorial University of Newfoundland
  • Mount Allison University
  • University of Victoria
  • University of Ottawa

Then, Concordia University, Carleton University, Ontario Tech University, St. Francis Xavier University, Lakehead University, Simon Fraser University, and Acadia University were only mentioned once.

According to Canadians, most of the best universities in Canada are in Ontario.

There were 12 post-secondary institutions in Ontario named as the top schools, followed by three in B.C. and Nova Scotia, two in Quebec, and one in Alberta, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

Not everyone had a clear-cut answer to what Canada's best universities are, though.

"Depends on the program and level of study," someone commented.

"What may be best for one may not be the best for another," another person said.

Someone else said that each university in Canada has its own strengths.
