You Can Still Give Blood If You Got A COVID-19 Vaccine & After Having The Disease

COVID-19 isn't transmitted by blood.
Contributor

Whether you're a regular blood donor or thinking about going for the first time, with the current vaccination rollout at the forefront of the health scene, you may be wondering, "can I donate blood after a COVID-19 vaccine?" The short answer, yes!

Canadian Blood Services is reassuring donors and recipients alike that donations from people who have received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, or who have had the disease, are safe.

According to the service's website, the group that determines donor eligibility has been reviewing the vaccines Health Canada has approved and found that they will not impact people's ability to give blood.

Since COVID-19 is a respiratory disease and isn't transmitted by blood, they also say that it's ok to donate if you have been sick yourself.

That being said, you are not allowed to donate for 14 days if you or your close contacts are feeling unwell, have travelled recently, have tested positive, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
