Calling all foodies! If you're searching for baby-name inspiration, look no further.

Canada's top food-related baby names have been revealed, and there are some cute, quirky and downright sweet options that you may want to consider.

The list includes names associated with baked goods, fruit, spices and more, and are so good they might even make your stomach growl.

The top food-related baby names in Canada were compiled by food delivery service Chef's Plate, which analyzed annual baby name data released by Statistics Canada to reveal the most popular names for those born since 2022. They also looked at the most significant movements in popularity for food-related baby names from 2021 to 2022.

While some of the top names have more traditional connotations, the list shows that more parents are opting for unique food-related names.

The number one most popular food-related baby name is a classic — Jasmine, which may refer to Jasmine rice.

Parents who chose the second top food-related baby name may have been fans of French pastries. Following Jasmine, Madeleine (as in the shell-shaped sponge cake with lemon, orange, or vanilla flavors) was the second most popular name.

The third most popular food-related baby name, Olive, is a classic choice, and could be a less-used option for fans of the name "Olivia," which was the most popular name in Canada in 2023, according to BabyCenter.

Here are the top food-related baby names in Canada, according to Chef's Plate:

  1. Jasmine
  2. Madeleine
  3. Olive
  4. Juniper
  5. Sage
  6. Clementine
  7. Colby
  8. Rosemary
  9. Maple
  10. Brie
  11. Basil
  12. Honey
  13. Pepper
  14. Saffron
  15. Peach
  16. Rye

Some names on the list, like Sage and Rosemary, may not seem too out of the box, but others could definitely be considered as more unconventional choices, like Saffron and Basil.

Then you have names like Clementine, Honey, Maple, and Peach, which are just too sweet!

Some of the names have also been getting more popular in recent years — according to Chef's Plate, the name Brie climbed 340 positions in popularity from 2021 to 2022, while Rosemary jumped 197 positions and Maple rose by 141 positions.

If you're considering going with a food-related baby name, you should know that Canada has laws on what you can name your baby — for example, in Quebec, parents must ensure that their child's name doesn't "cause [the] child to be ridiculed or not taken seriously," so while "Sage" might work, you may run into issues if you opt for a name like "Banana."
