Canadian Creators Are Totally Taking Over Audible With A Bunch Of New Originals

Calling all podcast and book lovers in the True North! Amazon just announced some major new Canadian talent launching for its Audible platform.

You can soon expect a total Canadian takeover after the company announced their Canadian Audible Originals on Tuesday.

The launch of the slate will feature premium podcasts, audio series and audiobooks made by and for fellow Canadians.

The work will showcase not only a range of celebrated Canadian storytellers but feature a wide variety of genres.

Who are among the Canadian hosts?

From authors, activists and actors, the tech giant did not shy away from highlighting Canada's best and brightest, especially in the podcast category. 

Among the Canadian lineup is Indigenous rights activist and author, Tanya Talaga.

The Polish-Canadian and Anishinaabe reporter will host a seven-part podcast detailing her heritage as well as bringing up issues faced by the Indigenous community.

Talaga is also the author of Seven Fallen Feathers and All Our Relations that touches on the racism and the survival of Indigenous youth in the north.

Additionally, there will be projects from Canadian actors Colm Feore and Yannick Bisson.

Bisson is a famous Canadian television actor widely known for his performance as Detective William Murdoch on the series Murdoch Mysteries.

His work with Audible will dissect his character on the show in a series called The Secret Diaries of Detective Murdoch.

Feore, another podcaster to join the ranks, is an American–Canadian actor well known for his award-winning portrayal of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in the television miniseries Trudeau that aired on CBC in 2002.   

He is the host of True North Heists which tells the story of infamous thefts documented in Canada.

Amazon said several more Canadians are also being spotlighted on Audible for their original slate.

Why is Canada being highlighted?

It's no surprise that lots of Canadian projects eventually make it to the mainstream and acquire global praise, but it's seemingly almost rare to see an influx of Canadian projects taking the stage in one go.

Aurelie de Troyer, Audible’s SVP of Content, said that this is an opportunity for the "Canadian creative community" to expand their storytelling and amplify the voices of local and diverse writers.

"Celebrating Canadian voices was our inspiration for the first collection of Canadian Originals and we’re excited to bring this offering to our listeners," Georgia Knox, Canada Country Manager at Audible also said.

What are the release dates for these podcasts? 

Talaga is set to debut her seven-part-series which represents the Indigenous community on November 26.

Feore's podcast launched on Tuesday and comes at no cost to Canadians at Audible.ca up until October 27.

Bisson's 10-part project will launch next year.
