Head out into the polar vortex!
Senior Writer

Dr. Theresa Tam wants everyone to enjoy the Canadian winter right now by getting outdoors, but she says you need to do it safely.

In a statement to update Canadians about the pandemic, Canada's chief public health officer shared her thoughts about having fun while being physically distanced.

We need to take every opportunity to have fun and maintain important social connections in safer ways! Dr. Theresa Tam

She also noted that there's a lot of importance in maintaining social connections.

Tam wants everyone to "embrace Canada's winter wonderland" during this winter season by doing outdoor activities

If you're going to head outside, you should wear layers, but that doesn't just mean clothing.

Tam said to "layer on" public health practices like wearing a mask along with gear to keep you warm in the cold.

You might not want to have outdoor adventures, however, if you're dealing with the polar vortex and the frigid temperatures it's bringing to parts of the country.

Whether you head outside or not, Tam said that all Canadians should "find creative ways to enjoy this season in a fun and safe way."
