COVID-19 Cases In Canada Are Rising At Alarming Rates In First Nation Communities

This is concerning. Cases of COVID-19 in First Nation communities in Canada are on the rise.

Since the middle of August, there has been a significant weekly increase in the number of new and active cases of the virus in First Nation communities.

That's led to the highest weekly increase in new cases since the pandemic started.

631 cases of COVID-19 in First Nations communities

As of September 24, there have been a total of 631 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths.

First Nation communities have also seen 52 hospitalizations.

Active cases rose to 121 from 79 in the previous week.

Those confirmed positive cases are more than the totals in New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Newfoundland & Labrador combined.

Those three provinces only have 530 cases of the virus.

There is even more concern because the number of cases that originate from outside of First Nation communities is growing as well.

Indigenous Services Canada is now asking people to keep up with public health guidelines like wearing a mask, avoiding non-essential trips and limiting the number of non-essential gatherings.

Canada has officially reached more than 150,000 total cases of COVID-19.
