The Area With Ontario's Highest COVID-19 Positivity Rate Is Nowhere Near Toronto

It's not considered a "hot spot" despite having a positivity rate of almost 30%. 😨

Toronto might have higher case counts than anywhere else in the province, but the area with the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in Ontario is far outside of the city.

That unwanted honour belongs to the N6A postal code in London, which recorded an astonishing 28.97 percent positivity rate between March 28 and April 3.

In a media briefing on Monday, a city official said that COVID-19 transmission in London was being driven by outbreaks at Western University residences, several of which are located within the N6A neighbourhood.

But despite having the highest test positivity rate in all of Ontario for that week, N6A has not been designated as a "hot spot" under the province's vaccination plans.

"I believed, as I said last week, that without question, London is a hotspot," said London's Mayor Ed Holder at Monday's briefing. "This is something that the Health Unit is pressing at their end [...] all I can say at this time is that those conversations are ongoing."
