The Victoria Park IceWay lights up in the winter under the glow of multi-coloured lamps, illuminating a winding path through a forest. Edmonton is home to a few outdoor skating rinks, but this is an iconic destination during the winter.
The rainbow-lit trail is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., but going at night is extra magical as that's when you get the lights.
Although it's right downtown the path takes you through the trees in the park, surrounding you with nature. The path has loops that take you around the forest, with hanging lanterns peppered around them. The setting makes the backdrop of the city fade away, and you'll feel like you've been transported into a Hallmark holiday movie in no time.
It's the perfect way to get outside during the chilly season and have some fun.
There's also the skating oval here, so even after you enjoy the IceWay you can spend some time skating around. There's also a pavilion, skate change rooms and washrooms.
The best part is that it's free to visit, making it the perfect group activity or cheap date night idea.
