There’s good news on the horizon when it comes to securing COVID-19 vaccines in Canada.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, December 7, Justin Trudeau confirmed that Canada will be receiving an early delivery of the Pfizer-BioNTech candidate.

In fact, the PM revealed that up to 249,000 doses are expected to arrive as early as next week.

“This morning I have important news to share on vaccines,” he began.

We are now contracted to receive up to 249,000 of our initial doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine in the month of December. Justin Trudeau

“Pending Health Canada approval, the first shipment of doses is tracking for delivery next week,” he confirmed.

The PM also confirmed that deliveries would continue into 2021, with “millions” more doses on the way.

In addition, Trudeau says the government is working alongside provinces to prepare Canada's first 14 vaccination sites this week.

We are facing the “largest immunization in the history of our country,” Trudeau admitted, adding that distribution will be “no small task.”

However, he promised that the federal government has a “clear plan” to ensure that Canadians can get vaccinated as soon as a candidate is approved and delivered.

Like all vaccine candidates, the Pfizer-BioNTech option must be authorized by Health Canada before it can be administered to Canadians.

Results of their review are expected "soon."
