The PM wants us to move our festivities online though.
Althoughlooks different than usual, the prime minister still thinks that we deserve to celebrate "after the year we've had."
Before the celebrations began, Justin Trudeau shared his thoughts about the end of 2020 and ringing in the new year in a series of tweets.
Now, don't get me wrong - we can definitely celebrate. After the year we've had, I think we all deserve to do that.
He said that we'd probably be finalizing plans for getting together with loved ones to celebrate if this was any other year.
However, because this is 2020, we need to do that in a different way, like moving our festivities online to stay safe.
"Now, don't get me wrong - we can definitely celebrate. After the year we've had, I think we all deserve to do that," Trudeau said.
He also noted that not gathering in person will help us "have a happier and healthier 2021."
People in other parts of the world already rang in the new year and there were evenbecause of the country's low COVID-19 numbers.
