A decision on whether Ontario online learning will become a permanent option will be coming in a matter of weeks, says the province's education minister.

Stephen Lecce spoke to reporters on the issue, stating that Ontario students "have benefitted from [...] online instruction" and that the government "will release a decision in the coming weeks."

"Right now we're consulting with a variety of partners in education to get their perspective on how we can potentially create a system that is safe, but also provides parents the choice that I think Ontarians benefited from this past September," said Lecce.

A report by The Globe and Mail made Wednesday suggests that online learning would be optional for Ontario students.

Lecce has stated that the potential shift would be to decrease learning loss and "to ensure a child's continuity of learning is protected."
