Several Canadian Influencers Are Unimpressed With Jessica Mulroney's Apology
The people have spoken! After recent events, Jessica Mulroney’s apology message on Instagram has been receiving disappointed comments from several Canadian beauty influencers. Mulroney posted the statement after being called out by a Black lifestyle blogger.
Recently, Sasha Exeter made a call-to-action post urging for influencers to use their platforms to open up the conversation surrounding Black Lives Matter and police brutality.
After seeing the post, the fashion stylist reportedly took offence, resulting in a behind-the-scenes feud with Exeter.
The founder of So Sasha later went on to post a 12-minute long video to her Instagram where she opened up about what transpired between them.
"What happened next was a series of very problematic behaviour and antics that ultimately resulted in [Mulroney] sending me a threat in writing last Wednesday," Exeter revealed.
"Listen, I am by no means calling Jess a racist but what I will say is this, she is very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the colour of her skin. And that, my friends, gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing."
After the video was released, Mulroney issued a statement of her own, apologizing for her recent actions.
“I want to say from my heart that every word of my apologies to Sasha over the course of the last two weeks privately, and again both publicly and privately is true,” she wrote.
“I did not intend in any way to jeopardize her livelihood. We had a disagreement and it got out of hand. For that I am sorry.”
Mulroney also said that she plans to step back from social media for a few days, allowing for Black voices to take over her account and share their experiences.
The post has received over 8,000 comments, several of which come from Canadian beauty influencers who were unimpressed with the message.
“I mean... you kinda forgot the part where you threatened to sue her when she rightfully spoke up about it? Yikes girl! The lip service 🤯,” beauty YouTuber Karissa Pukas commented.
“This is awkward and performative. Disagreement is the wrong word. Try again,” fashion blogger Reese Wonge said.
“Nope 🥴,” vlogger Allana Davison wrote.
“This should have started with ‘I made a mistake’ not hey me and my gal pal had a little spat. You literally wrote almost the exact same thing last night on her post and then DM’d her threatening her, how does she not know you’ll do it again?” visual artist Briony Douglas added.
It was also recently announced that Mulroney’s wedding-revival series I Do, Redo has been cancelled and removed from all Bell Media channels and platforms after just one season.
