Disney just announced it will be laying off 28,000 employees worldwide, including a huge number of Disneyland employees specifically.

Among those being laid off at the Anaheim location are security guards, ride operators, and the meet and greet characters that walk around the park.

Of these layoffs, 1,400 will affect cast members (Disney's name for employees) from Teamsters Local Union 495.

28,000 Layoffs expected to hit Disney Parks worldwide

Around 500 Disneyland security guards will be losing their jobs.

The total number of layoffs at Disneyland specifically is expected to be at around 8,400 per the Orange County Register.

“We initially hoped that this situation would be short-lived, and that we would recover quickly and return to normal," Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, told his employees in a letter.

"Seven months later, we find that has not been the case. And, as a result, today we are now forced to reduce the size of our team across executive, salaried and hourly roles.”

COVID had other plans, however, and nothing returned to normal.

The chairman blamed the state of California for not allowing Disneyland to reopen sooner.
