A hunter missing in the backcountry of British Columbia's southern Interior for several days has been found dead.

RCMP in Vernon, B.C., say the 57-year-old man was reported missing Monday morning after he failed to return from a hunting trip in the Douglas Lake area near Merritt.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue said Wednesday that six teams were deployed, including Nicola Valley Search and Rescue.

The search involved ground and canine teams.

RCMP say the man's body was found in the Merritt area around noon Thursday.

They say the BC Coroners Service is investigating how he died but it is not considered suspicious.
