Health Canada Says More Data Is Needed For The Moderna Vaccine As The US Approves It

The U.S. FDA already gave the green light.

Canada hasn't approved Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine yet because more data is needed but the U.S. has already given the green light.

Health Canada put out a statement after the approval came through in the U.S. and said that its own review is still ongoing right now.

Health Canada cannot provide a definite timeline for the completion of the review at this time, although it is expected to be completed in the coming weeks. Health Canada

Canada has not given approval yet because data from Moderna is still needed for review.

There's no definite timeline for when the final word on this vaccine will be given but it's expected to happen in the coming weeks.

Health Canada said it's working with regulators like the U.S. FDA, which approves vaccines, to share data and information that's being reviewed.

If approved, Canada is set to receive 168,000 doses from Moderna before the end of December.

When it comes to Pfizer's COVID vaccine, the country will get more than 100,000 doses every week in January and Health Canada has advice about who shouldn't get it after allergic reactions were reported in the U.K.

Recently, Justin Trudeau said that he'll "be as close to the front of the line" as he can get after priority populations are vaccinated.
