Eye Drops That May Contain 'Human Placenta Materials' Are Being Recalled In Canada
Health Canada has issued an unusual recall. On October 4, the agency confirmed they were recalling Regener-Eyes Ophthalmic Solution — an eye drop claiming to contain “human placenta materials.”
In the notice, Health Canada explained that an Edmonton-based eye doctor had been importing and selling the unauthorized product.
The drops, which claim to contain “human placenta materials,” are illegal in Canada.

Regener-Eyes Ophthalmic Solution may pose “serious risks to the health of consumers,” says Health Canada.
The agency explained, “human placenta is a biologic material and can contain infectious agents such as bacteria (e.g. Group B Streptococcus) and viruses (e.g. HIV, or hepatitis).”
The Calgary Trail Vision Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, was found to be importing and selling the product.
The government agency is urging anybody who may have the eye drops at home to stop using them immediately and to contact Health Canada.
The recall was initially posted on September 28, and has since been updated.
